This paper German advent calendar opens to form a free standing 3 dimensional calendar with six individual scenes.  This paper calendar was originally produced in 1955 and is now being re-printed.  Shows a nostalgic moonlit view of a traditional German village with Christmas market and a castle tower in the hills.  Doors can be opened in all the scenes.
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today.
This calendar was printed in Germany, by the Richard Sellmer Publishing Co., in Stuttgart. Founded by Richard Sellmer in 1945, it remains family owned & operated, after 75 years.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
