This German advent calendar with glitter accents depicts the Marienplatz (town square), one of the most famous landmarks in Munich, Germany at Christmas.  Munich's town hall (the Rathaus) and the Frauenkirche (Our Lady's Church) with its unmistakable onion domed towers are carefully reproduced on paper in fine detail.
In the square, the yearly Christmas market is in full festivity with stalls brimming with sweets, gifts and decorations.  The market lights glow under the starlit sky.
Windows of this calendar reveal other famous buildings, landmarks & symbols of Munich. Great for old and young alike!
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today.
This calendar was printed in Germany, by the Richard Sellmer Publishing Co., in Stuttgart. Founded by Richard Sellmer in 1945, it remains family owned & operated, after 75 years.
The detailed picture has 24 little doors to open. Each door has a little picture behind it. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
